King Kaumuali’i Elementary
School is a K-5 elementary school, located in the Puna
District on the island of Kauai. Set on 8.631 acres, the
school opened its doors in September 1990. King Kaumuali’i
Elementary School services two communities separated by
the Wailua River, Hanamaulu & part of the Wailua Homesteads
area. King Kaumuali’i is home to approximately 620
students.
One of the major efforts undertaken by the school was
to incorporate planning/articulation time for teachers
within the school day. |

Within these professional learning communities,
grade levels review and work on curriculum maps, select student
exemplars that best meet standards, select common assessments
for grading and share best practices. |

Standards-based instruction is further enhanced with the continued
implementation of the standards-based report card.
The Family Focus Team continues to work on creative ways to
improve family involvement in all aspects of the school community.
King Kaumuali’i is supported by an active Parent Teacher Student
Association (PTSA) and under ACT 51, continues to implement

the School Community Council through out the school
year. Parent and community involvement are welcome and encouraged.

Students wear uniform school t-shirts
to promote school spirit, pride and safety on campus. The 4
B's (Be Safe (Malama), Be Respectful (Ho’ihi), Be Cooperative
(Laulima), Be Responsible (Kuleana) are a school wide emphasis,
as the positive Behavior Support Team focuses on the positive
emotional and social growth of all students. |
