King Kaumuali`i Counselors

Counselors have specialized training to enable them to work with students individually and in groups. Our goal is to help students acquire positive attitudes, values, knowledge and skills that contribute to effective learning. Students will also learn to develop personal and interpersonal relationship skills to function independently and relate effectively with others. Problem-solving, decision-making, anger management cooperation and coping skills also play an important role in our program. Students will also understand the world of work and its relationship to education and essential life skills, interrelated areas of student development.

School counseling enhances student learning through these three interrlated areas of student development.

Personal and Social Development

Students will acquire the attitudes, knowledge and interpersonal skills to help them understand and respect self and others. Students will make decisions,
set goals and take necessary action to achieve goals. Students will understand safety and survivial skills.


Career

Students will acquire the skills to investigate the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and to make informed career decisions. Students will employ strategies to achieve future career success and satisfaction. Students will understand the relationship between personal qualities, educaion and training and the world of work.

Academic

Students will acquire the attitudes, knowledge and skills that contribute to effective learning in school and across the life span. Students will understand the relationship of academics to the world of work and to life at home.
