Meet The School Librarian

When I was a sophomore in high school I worked at the public library shelving books. From then I wanted to be be a librarian. I went to school at Pacific Lutheran University in Washington first to get my teaching degree. Then I went to University of Hawaii at Manoa and I got my Masters in Library and Information Sciences. I was the librarian at Kapaa Elementary School for 9 years. I worked at Maunaloa Elementary on Molokai for 1 year. I started here at King Kaumuali'i when the school opened.
To be a librarian you need to love to read and work with kids. I like working with all of the different ages at the school.
Some of my favorite lessons are:
The monkey and the crocodile by Galdone- a puppet rhyme and song.
Giraffe and a half by Silverstein- a concentration game.
Round Trip by Jonas- about optical illusions.
Some of my favorite authors are: Betty Ren Wright, a ghost story writer Joan Aiken and Sid Fleischman.
Some of my favorite books are the most recent John Newbery Medal winners; Walk Two Moons, View from Saturday, Castle in the Attic and Stories to Solve. When I have free time and want to read for pure pleasure I like all of the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books.
